Speak Up! is a communications, public relations and media relations training program tailored for small businesses, nonprofits, local government agencies, government officials and other organizations and individuals with limited resources (i.e. finances, personnel, knowledge, skills and abilities) for the communications and marketing activities necessary to reach their respective goals and objectives. The program was developed after the primary training coordinator and facilitator and her colleagues recognized a need based on their professional and volunteer experiences in various small cities and communities. Participants in various training sessions learn effective ways to reach their target audiences and maximize their messages in one-on-one communications, public speaking and through a variety of mass media venues.

Topics addressed in a general, three-hour training session include:

  • Effective Public Speaking
  • Talking to the Media
  • Camera Ready (on-camera appearances and language)
  • Writing Press Releases and Media Advisories
  • Printed Materials
  • Newsletters
  • Strategic Planning
  • Targeted Campaigns
  • Social Media
  • Crisis and Issues Management

Good PR is much more than people pleasing and brown nosing. It is information management facilitated by efficient, effective communications.
